Greensomes: how to play
Also known as Scotch Foursomes
Both drive, take the better one, then alternate shots.
Greensomes is Foursomes without the fear of the first tee. Both partners drive on every hole, the team picks the better tee shot, and the partner whose drive was not chosen plays the second. From there you alternate shots until the ball is holed.
It is the society day favourite for pairs because everyone gets to hit a driver and nobody is stuck with their partner's duffed tee shot. Golf Daddy keeps one team score per hole and applies the proper team handicap.

Greensomes rules
- 1.Both partners tee off on every hole.
- 2.The team chooses the better drive.
- 3.The partner whose drive was not chosen plays the second shot.
- 4.Partners then alternate shots until the ball is holed.
- 5.One team score per hole; Greensomes rounds do not count towards your handicap.
How handicaps work
Golf Daddy uses a team handicap of 60% of the lower course handicap plus 40% of the higher, the WHS Greensomes allowance. The team's net score is its gross score minus that handicap.
Worked example
Partners off 6 and 21: team handicap is 60% of 6 (3.6) plus 40% of 21 (8.4) = 12.
Tips and variations
- The choice of drive decides who plays the approach, so sometimes the slightly shorter drive is the better pick.
- Greensomes rounds are quick: you only play one ball from the second shot onwards.
- Try Chapman if you want the same idea with more decisions.
